Behind closed doors

You never know what's going on behind closed doors. What appears to be a happy, stable environment is sometimes the most unhappy and unstable. It amazes me how people put up a certain facade to the outside world. I often wonder how people can manage all of the lies that they tell to themselves and to the rest of the world. What makes a person happy? I suppose it varies from person to person. Some require materialistic possessions to be happy. Some require to be doted upon. Some require status. Nothing is ever what it seems. Marriages "appear" to be stable. When on the inside someone is dying to get out of the ties that bind them. Friends appear to be as close as siblings. But in reality, one is searching for the soft spot on the others back. I wonder how people sleep at night sometimes. It's safe to assume that they don't.
