The value of money

Since when did parents become so indulgent of their children? When did they decide that a Coach pocketbook is a better lesson to be learned than the value of working for your own money. It has come to my attention by my 12 year old niece than EVERY>>>ONE>>>> in school has a Coach bag. I.......do not own a COACH bag. And I do not wish to. I tried to explain to her the value of money. And spending hundreds of dollars on a purse is not only irrisponsible. But also rediculous. I tried to remind her how lucky we all are to even have a place to lay our heads at night. To have roofs over our heads, cloths to wear, and food to eat. Is it that parents want their little girls to have what they didn't? Do they know how they are steering these children in a self indulgant direction? When I was a child. I wouldn't have thought to ask for such a pricey item. As a matter of fact. Me and my sisters never asked for anything. We were well aware of the value of money each time the oil man came to drop in 25 gallons of oil that would be used over night. We understood the value of money when we had to share everything we had. When we felt lucky to have cable tv and a working telephone. When the oil ran out and we had to endure cold showers? Then too we understood the value of money.
